I just got my first graphics tablet. Its a Wacom Bamboo 5X7, and its incredible. I cant believe I never had one of these before. Sure I always thought it would boost my production a bit and make things easier, but wow, this tool can really get the job done. Im really impressed! Anyway, I wanted to show what I could do with my new tablet and created a really simplistic sunset going down behind some mountains. I hope you guys enjoy it!
Whats going on everyone!? My name is Chris or Darkfallenx. First of all I just want to say that Newgrounds is by far my greatest source of inspiration, and I want to give my regards to all of you that have contributed to this site and made it what it is today. With that being said, I have lurked around this site for quite some time now, just browsing through everyone's work, and never even had an account until now. I would sit and marvel at all the work that you guys have created, hoping that one day I could be like you. An artist. An animator. An illustrator...Someone who others can look up to for inspiration and say, I want to grow up and be like that guy! The thing that I came to realize is, I am like all of you, as you all are alike me. No one grew up having the knowledge and talent that they have today, which just goes to show that hard work, practice, and dedication will always pay off. And this is the point where Im going to start taking my own advice..
I have always been an artist at heart, and my creativeness has driven me to become the person that I am today. The only drawback to my situation though is, a lot of it has been lost, or hidden since. I graduated high school in '05 and took a year off to work and save some money before going to college. Well, the year passed and in fall of '06, I was enrolled and set to start my career at the Arts Institute of Pittsburgh. I was there for one semester. I loved the education and all the creative talent I was surrounded with, but the only problem was that back at home, I had a gf. I came home the following semester to be with her. I took one more semester online through the school, and between the two semesters, I had a 3.4 GPA. Long story short, Gears of War broke up our relationship. She met a guy from maryland (Im from Buffalo) over xbox live and well, they've been together since...Leaving school was my biggest regret and mistake. Its now approaching 2009 and guess what, Im still not back in school or in any greater position than I was then. The reason? There's been a lot of reasons. But I will tell all of you what my biggest reason for not being where I want to be today is. Persistence and dedication. It wasn't getting into school that was the issue, it was working the same tiring jobs day in and out trying to pay back my debts so I can go back. I hated it, and it just wasn't very motivating to see everyone in school and getting an education while I sat and worked at burger king, or any other crusty ass job I've had. I have never been good at saving, or for sticking to one thing until its finished for that matter. But in all honesty, this site has inspired me to change that habit. I made an account a week ago, and Ive been viewing all the work I can to review and draw inspiration from. And I must say it feels great being a part of such a talented and artistic community such as this, and I dont even know anybody yet. I have been drawing everyday getting back into the habit, doing tutorials for Illustrator, flash, and photoshop that I had once been good at, and overall Im really happy to be apart of something I love again. I am going back to school next semester back in Buffalo, and I cannot wait to learn and show off my artistic talent.
If there had to be a moral for this long drawn out story that Im sure some just skipped through to the end, its that if you love something and are passionate about it, pursue it. No matter how bad you may be at drawing or writing or whatever. Practice, practice, practice, and always look to learn new things.
On a side note, I have an idea for an animation I would like to make, and was just wondering if anyone would be interested in collaborating with me to do this project, or if there is a space dedicated within the forums for people looking to do the same as I.
Now that thats all out of the way, I just wanted to show you guys some of the talent I have and what you can look forward to seeing in the near future. This was an original design that I came up with and drew, and just imported into photoshop to take out the pencil lines. Its called "Thorn".
